A Visit to Singapore – 25 Years of the Civil Service College, 25+ of Friendship Left to right: Melody Hong - Amelia Tang – Jocelyne Bourgon – Vernie Oliveiro – Terence Ho

PGI President Jocelyne Bourgon visited Singapore for a four-day work program, April 21st to 24th. This particular work program was special: a celebration of both the 25th year of Singapore’s Civil Service College and of 25+ years of friendship between Mme Bourgon/PGI and the Singapore Public Service.

This time around, the ambitious program included a roundtable on policy-making in an increasingly contested environment; one on the capacity for collective problem-solving, public service transformation in challenging times, and a conversation about Bourgon’s latest book, A Public Servant’s Voice; as well as meetings with various officials and interviews with ETHOS and the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy.

A Public Servant's Voice is getting attention. There was a full room for the first book launch (speech now available in text form), co-hosted by the Institute on Governance and the Institute of Public Administration of Canada. The book has been covered in the Globe and Mail, and PGI President Jocelyne Bourgon was interviewed for the Hill Times' Hot Room podcast. See as well glowing comments by Penny Collenette, David McLaughlin, and Bob Chartier.

A Public Servant’s Voice can be found in bookstores, including Ottawa's Perfect Books, or can be ordered directly, physical or e-copy, from the publisher's website.

Reflecting on the National Public Service Week of Canada, PGI has dug deep into our archives to share the first-ever digital Annual Report to the Prime Minister on the Public Service of Canada. The Sixth Annual Report was Madame Bourgon’s final report to the Prime Minister of Canada as she was preparing to move on from her role as the first female Clerk of the Privy Council. Her final report is reflective of her esteemed tenure as Clerk, one that continuously pushed boundaries and guided the Public Service of Canada through an unprecedented period of change to prepare for the challenges of the 21st century.
